Blue Eyes White Dragon

1. The iconic legendary dragon from the YuGiOh manga, anime and trading card game. With 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF, Blue-Eyes White Dragon is the powerful boss monster of the original series’ antagonist, Seto Kaiba. It remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable monsters and continues receiving support for its archetype in the TCG as of 2022.

2. In drug slang, Blue Eyes White Dragon is another colloquial name for Crystal methamphetamine. The term caught on with some popularity after the success of the TV series, Breaking Bad, which saw the protagonist anti-hero Walter White cooking a particularly potent form of crystal meth. Also known as ice or speed, the act of seeking out additional methamphetamine is sometimes called ‘chasing the dragon’, giving the term another layer of resonance. In the anime, BEWD’s signature attack was ‘white lightning’, which probably added another association with the powerful stimulant due to the famous Velvet Underground album and song, White Light / White Heat—also about the drug.
