zoomie

noun. (plural - zoomies) Students who attend class remotely alongside other students in person. Derived from students using Zoom from home to follow in-classroom instruction and lectures with video/audio. Synonym: Remote students. Became popular during the covid-19 pandemic among grade school educators in 2020-2021.
The zoomies can be difficult to monitor and keep on task; they are not in the classroom, so the teacher now has two "rooms" to watch (the Zoom gallery view and the physical classroom).
