Badger in the mailbox

A term for an unexpected or unpredictable problem or issue which causes harm, physically, mentally, etc.
Can be used if the problem is self created or not.

Referential to the idea of a mailman’s opening a mailbox unknowingly containing an angered badger

(Self Created Problem) *Joe trips and hurts his nose*
Steve: Man, you really put the badger in the mailbox
Joe: I guess so

(Not self created) *Crazy girl destroys Steve’s car*
Steve: Man I really missed the badger in the mailbox there

Guest Badger

A person who apparently has a free pass to bother his significant other / partner / friend at work all day (note: they work together, giving free reign for the annoyance).

He's back, just sitting on her desk. Why would she marry him? And how does he finish any work when he's up here in her face, staring at her with disapproving looks and bothering her with “do you want a soda?” and “did you buy eggs?”, all day? He's such a guest badger!

Purse badger

A person, typically female, who keeps their proximity or RFID badge in their purse at all times. While not typically a problem, the purse badger will always hold up a group of weary-eye, late-arrivals at the entrance while she tries in vain to scan the badge through the sidewall of the purse. The purse badger is an animal of convenience and necessity, and does not remove the badge from the purse for any reason. If the badge cannot be scanned, the next person in line will be forced to use their badge to open the door so the group may pass.

I was late to work because the purse badger was holding up the line at the door.
