In the '90's they were huge (especially 94) for bringing back punk with The Offspring and a few other bands. They have gotten a lot of shit thrown on them for going on to a bigger label so that they could make better produced records. Most of their fans are either die-hard and like the bands that Green Day themselves like (The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Replacements, Husker Du, ect.) or are duchebags who have only heard one song by them and didn't even know that they existed in the 90's. Recently, they have written rock operas that have political stories.
