Perhaps it is because they only date to marry and want to start a family with who they marry, are religious, or are just sexually attracted to the characteristics and genitals of the opposite sex. However, it comes across as ignorant because
1. when you’re straight it is assumed that you are only attracted to the opposite sex and nobody in everyday society would ridicule you for it.
2. this term is also used as a dog-whistle by people who genuinely hate trans people.

It didn’t go as planned... he said he understood, but he had a shocked and heartbroken expression.
