Ghost hype

A slang term used to describe the phenomenon of people building up excitement for a form of entertainment media, purely over nonexistent information and rumors that are taken as true statements. Often leading to disappointed and angry fans when the aforementioned rumors are proven to be false.

Friend: “ did you hear Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire Spider-Man is going to be a Deadpool 3!?”

Friend 2: “no I didn’t, I think that’s just a bunch of ghost hype.”

Professional Ghosting

1. (noun)- A situation when customer service, job recruiters, sales people and any organization whose job is to provide a professional and timely response, do not reply to their customer's communication and do so continuously without any justifiable reason. Generally, the customer or second party has much at stake in continuing the conversation.

2. (verb) : The act of consciously avoiding professional communication with anther party in situation where fear, laziness, disregard, contempt, or other negative reasons create a non-response. Subsequently, time and money was lost by either party.

Job Recruiter 1 - "Hey, what's up with the Professional Ghosting on all those job seekers?"
Job Recruiter 2 - "Eh, don't worry. They are the ones that need the jobs. They'll call back - he he he."

A TV series that explodes into a massive cultural event, dominating online discussions, memes, theories, and mainstream chatter for a period (often a season or two), only to fade from broader pop culture relevance while retaining a dedicated core fandom.

Examples include: Lost, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Glee, Game of Thrones, Squid Game, etc.

Person A: Netflix says Cobra Kai is in the Top 10 most watched again, but literally no one is talking about it online.
Person B: Sounds like a Ghost Show. Watched by everyone, discussed by no one.

Ghost-pull

The act of being being extremely close to hooking up with / pulling someone but then stopping at the critical moment. You know you could have got the whole way if you wanted to but you thought better of it, often because you have a girlfriend/boyfriend. Essentially, your "ghost" pulled, but you remained faithful.

Man 1: I must have ghost-pulled about 3 girls last night, they all wanted me so bad.
Man 2: Thats good you remained faithful to your girlfriend, you are such a top bloke.
