Every family from the great depression to the current one knows the secret of the hand me down. Long used as a survival tool the method of handing down clothes with that "worn in look," has saved families money for years. The hand me up is typically a result of the younger generation of children either being better bred or better fed. Either way they are giving back to those who came before them.
The kid who listened to Baby Einstein in the womb and ate from his parents organic farm gave his older cousin a pair of hand me ups, his barely worn boots he had grown out of that would require some growing into by his older cousin.

A thumbs up acknowledgement done specifically by the left hand when a left-hander does anything left-handed and does it very well
When left-handed golfer Bubba Watson made a 75 foot chip shot directly into the cup, left-handed fans gave him the left-handed thumbs up in appreciation of the shot.
