Medellin Effect

The Medellin Effect is when producers/directors cut an incredible trailer to mask a terrible movie. The excitement generated by the excellent trailer is directly correlated with how shitty the movie will eventually be. Originally made famous from the HBO show "Entourage."

I'll admit that footage does look good. That being said, this might be another prime example of the Medellin effect.

the Eredivisie effect

The Eredivisie effect is caused by a football/soccer player leaving an easy league after playing extremely well to join a better league, and in the process somehow losing his ability. This can sometimes be reversed by going back to an easier league, but if the person affected is young, it is much harder.

Person 1: What happened to Jozy Altidore? He used to be so amazing.
Person 2: It's the Eredivisie effect, he joined a harder league

Tarja Effect

Phrase to describe what happens when an individual is given something of value (ex. fame, money, authority) from a certain entity, but then feels, because of this gain in value, that they are better than this entity, even though without the entity they wouldn't have that value.

Tarja Turunen of Nightwish fell victim to the Tarja Effect when she decided to leave the band that made her famous because she felt too famous for it.
