Balls to the Wall

A term originally coined in 1557, it means going in deep and hard. The term was originally used to refer to being balls deep (hence the plural "balls" to the singular "wall"), but was later "christianized," with most of the original history forgotten and replaced with steam engines, and eventually fighter planes.

Remember, there were no televisions back then, nor radios, the primary media was writing in books and magazines.
An extremely cursory Google search will show you this term originated with pilots OF THE VIETNAM WAR ERA.

Work Wall

A mental block that a person hits while at work where it become damn near impossible to continue working for the day. The work wall is typically hit a few minutes before the work day officially ends, though on some days it's inconveniently hit much earlier, especially if one is "not feeling it".
