background prop

A person who is invited to a party or other social activity simply as filler, and isn't really liked much by anyone there.
After Danny got into an argument with a friend of the host, she ended it by telling him that nobody wanted him there. He looked around and found no support, and so he left. He knew then that he was invited simply to be a background prop.

Top Props

The highest recognition a person can receive for their actions and accomplishments.
1. Jake was totally the top props man of Oakridge High: he could get Annie Meyers, the most picky yet hottest girl in school, to go crazy about him.
2. Alyssa Young became the top props entertainer in her circle of friends: she could sing, dance, play the guitar, was an excellent bartender, a great poker player, and the smoothest card mechanic
the world had ever seen.
3. Even though the bastard is crazy, I give Michael Murdock top props. He could seriously sell me an imaginary friend and I would buy it. He's that great of a speaker.

Prop Subject

When someone brings something up with the illusion of talking about you but they endlessly speak for the entirety of the discussion only of themselves.
Leon: “Have you seen any good movies lately Bill?”
Bill: “Not really”
Leon: “Oh well this weekend Bill I watched ‘Shooter’ on Netflix and boy was it amazing. I really liked the part about……”

On and on and on they chat about their side of the “subject” only pretending to have ever been interested in your opinion. This is the desired outcome of the prop subject; self-centered expression.

Prop keys

A second set of keys that can be left on top of a desk to give the impression that you are in the office (versus on a long lunch or having left early) but just not at your desk. An extra cell phone or --in the case of military personnel--a beret or other headgear--can to be used in a similar fashion.
Boss: "Bill, can't have gone far...his keys are on his desk."
Uncool Coworker: "That's true, unless those are prop keys."

prop key

A random set of keys to leave on your desk that will give your boss and colleagues the impression that you are in the office, just not at your desk. Helpful when taking a long lunch or cutting out of the oFfice early. Certain military members (with desk jobs) can enhance the effect by leaving the prop keys on top of an extra piece of uniform headgear (beret or other hat)
Boss: Where's Bill? Coworker: I'm not sure, but he could not have gone far since his keys are on his desk. Boss: Okay, I'll catch him later. Coworker thinks "maybe not, if those are his prop keys."
