Meleis is a racial slur created to downgrade and curse Malay people. A race that lives in southeast asia. Meleis used to refer to Malays in a demeaning tone. Anyone that uses meleis is a racist. This racial slur started being used on twitter and spread to other social media platforms such as tiktok. Meleis does not refer to Malaysian and unfortunately many people are unaware of it. Racist use Meleis as a substitute to Malays with hope that people will be unaware of racism that is happening. Stop racism! This racial slur has been in use since 2010 and maybe even earlier.
A racist always claims that racial slur needs a history but everyone knows that basic racism is when someone discriminates, prejudices and bad stereotyping a particular race. No history is needed for racism to happen.
If you are a Malay and using this racial slur, you are still a racist as internalized racism is happening. We should focus on the perpetrator's actions, not the perpetrator's race.
