The fandom has existed since the 1970's, and may continue to grow overtime.
A lot of people have fursuits, which may be covering their full body or partial. These are usually very expensive, however it's also a fun way for people to express themselvse and their interests.
Furries are generally normal, harmless people who just want to have fun and meet others with the same interest. However, the darker side of the fandom is what the public mostly sees, and there's a lot of assumptions about the fandom because of this.
There are a lot of people who harass furries solely based on what they've seen. Due to this, it's very hard for a lot of people to talk about and use the word "furry" to generally describe themselves.
