Cornerite

noun
A loyal regular of the café formerly known as Cathy’s Corner, now proudly run by Cathy’s daughter Janice, who renamed it Upsooke Eatery to mark the next chapter of a Sooke institution. Cornerites are the die‑hards who stuck with the place through the handover, the rebrand, and every muffin rotation in between.
Traits of a Cornerite:
- Still calls it “Cathy’s” at least half the time
- Knows Janice grew up doing homework in the back booth
- Treats Upsooke Eatery like a community living room
- Has a favourite table and will defend it with quiet, polite ferocity
- Can identify other Cornerites by their order alone
Example:
“Ever since Janice took over and turned Cathy’s into Upsooke Eatery, the Cornerites have only gotten more dedicated—some of them haven’t missed a morning in twenty years.”
