In addition to spurning NES for SMS, Sega Boy continually bucked the bandwagon by purchasing a Betamax VCR, NEC TV, Tandy computer, Primestar satellite dish, Game Park portable video gaming unit, Coby DVD player, Fujitsu laptop, IAudio MP3 player, and HD-DVD player.

The first 16-bit home console ever made by SEGA. The hardware is based on a modification of SEGA's System 16 arcade hardware, which was created in 1985(?). The SEGA Genesis was released in 1988 and competed with Nintendo's Super NES system, which was released in 1991. Although the graphics and sound were obviously inferior to the Super NES, the quality gameplay and innovative uses of the Genesis's hardware limitations were more than enough to challenge Nintendo in the marketplace for the entire 9 years of its lifespan.

Some of the best games for the SEGA Genesis are the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the Streets of Rage series, Gunstar Heroes, Contra 4, Rocket Rat, Shinobi/Shadow Dancer, and Eternal Champions.

Get the segah mug.First worldwide system released by SEGA in the states in 1986, also known as the Mark III in japan. It was graphically superior to the NES, and had way cooler peripherals, such as the fragile but still awesome 3D glasses. Instead of that crappy robot thing that shipped with the nes. But it was a doomed system in the states, due to nintendo's bully style marketing tactics. Though it did enjoy success in New Zeland, and especially Brazil, where they were still making games for it until 1997/8. And even made a girl's version of the SMS.
