Get the nu-metalmug. 1 - A broad genre that consists of great bands and shitty bands. Self proclaimed "true" metal-heads who listen to only speed metal or thrash metal and think that all the metal world has to offer is fast guitar riffs in straight E tuning and lyrics that were written in an instant and the same damn solo in every song that was pretty amazing the first time you heard it until you realized it was just some guy playing some scale really fast and then jerking the fuck off his whammy bar without any emotion whatsoever. These "true" metal-heads denounce Nu Metal because of its lack of guitar solos and say it's unemotional fast guitar riffs in low dropped tuning and their singers don't sing. So basically the difference is that the two forms of metal are in two different tunings and one of them doesn't consist of solos and makes up for that with emotion.
2-Too broad a term to really paint a picture of but is characterized by electronics, emotion, a tendancy to piss off a hypocritical self (and wrongly) proclaimed "true" metalhead (who should listen to some fucking Tool and Alice in Chains if he wants to know which talented bands to compare nu metal bands to in order to show how untalented they are), and less talent than the metal of the late 80s and early 90s. Sure nu metal bands lack solos and tend to write most of their songs in the same key and don't do anything that's technically amazing, but they have more emotion than all every "true" metalhead's bands combined! 3-Unfortunately a genre that appeals to teenagers who think they're depressed but are just too dumb to look around themselves and see that everyone else is going through the same thing, really haven't heard any real real real music and listen to bands because of the lyrics that are simple and dark enough for them to relate to and the image of the band. You really have to be open minded (or dumb enough to think you're depressed because you're a normal teenager) to listen to Nu Metal

Get the nu metalmug. A form of music. It combines metal, alternative, hip-hop, and various other things to create what is in large part talentless garbage. With the exceptions of a few decent listenable bands(Deftones, Korn, Chevelle, System of a Down, Slipknot) is pretty much complete shit. 99% of these bands put too much effort into their look, repetitive angsty lyrics that have no substance, talentless dropped-D,Db,C,etc tunings, shit drumming, turntables, rapping, and being accepted with the norm. These bands also have talentless guitar parts which if listened to more than twice could actually destroy nerves in your brain. The few good bands in this genre defy some of the rules of numetal and aviod sounding like everyone else. However others are repetitive, sound like everyone else, and basically can corrupt your soul. The people who listen to it are mainly kids who live life fine yet act pissed off and "relate to" the garbage lyrics of it(which all sound the same and are all about hating people for some stupid reason). They buy chains and clothes from Hot Topic, and aviod true metal at all costs, believing that they are "hardcore" by listening to dumbass Disturbed-like bands. While true metalheads listen to actual talent(Slayer, 80's Metallica possibly including the Black Album and less likely including Load+ReLoad, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Dream Theater, Pantera, all bands with great talent and unique qualities). While some numetal is decent, possibly even good material, it cannot be taken extremely seriously or the evil of the bad numetal might take your innocent life.

Get the nu metalmug. The vast majority of bad music you hear on the radio. Consists of heavy guitars (sometimes too heavy causing different octaves to become indistinguishable), and a usually a screaming/rapping lead singer. A good population of today's shittiest bands are lumped into the nu-metal category, such as Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, 3 Doors Down and Slipknot. Currently there are only two good nu-Metal bands in existence, System of a Down (though most would not call them nu-metal simply because it's become more of a stigma than a genre) and Ill Nino, and most would agree with these choices.

Get the nu-metalmug. An often misdefined sub genre of metal. Nu Metal involves rapping, scratching and simple yet heavily distorted guitar work. People often mix up "Nu Metal" with "New Metal" Nu Metal is rap with guitars. New Metal is the metal that most younger metal bands are bringing out. New Metal isn't bad, its just the evolutionary path that metal has taken. Nu Metal however is close to dead, as most Nu Metal bands have either moved onto rap or progressed into New Metal
