They are scary looking teenagers who hangout around Malls and Laser Tag joints and other places mothers of tweens and elementary school children frequent. They wear black and have pale skin. Many have tattoos, severe make-up, weird jewelry and such and while I am pretty sure they are probably not actually dangerous and maybe they just want to look nonconforming, they all look a like to me, my basic instinct is to protect my children from them where ever they are or might hang.
On the way to drop off 5 boys ages 10-12 so my cousin and I could go next door to shop at Walmart, Anna said; "Hey boys, let's go to the other laser tag joint instead, OK? Last time the place was full of these Gothic teenagers and we can't stay to supervise you."

People who express their individuality and dislike of societies conventions by, ironically, rebelling in the same way. They conform to a gothic convention of wearing black clothes, black makeup and having an even blacker outlook on life. These conventions are often enforced by a group mentality even stronger than the one they claim to oppose. Also an old tribe from Europe - but that is lost on many who call themselves goth because listening in ancient history class is definately not cool for a goth
Newbie Goth: Can I be a goth and wear colorful clothes?
Elder Goth: No!!! Only weird black clothes are allowed to express your individuality!
Newbie Goth: I dont get it?

Get the Goth mug.A sub-culture in high school and early college that have fallen out with popular modern culture. They are also known as non-conformists. Most Goths try to create a "unique" and "original" style by becoming the opposite of what they hate. In doing so, they come to a conformist state of their own and exclude those who aren't "hardcore" or cool enough.

Get the goth mug.A “Goth” is a member of a southern Scandinavian tribe originating from “Gotaland”, an island off the coast of modern-day Sweden. Famous for their wandering emigration, which coursed through eastern Europe over several generations, they ultimately settled in various parts of the Western Roman Empire. The two main branches were the “Ostrogoths”, who settled primarily in the Italian peninsula and in regions north thereof, and the “Visigoths”, who ultimately controlled much of the Iberian peninsula.
Many children who possess poor posture, emotional frailty, lack of vigor, strength, or endurance, sheepishness, melodramatic sensitivity, nearly pathological conformity to others' manner of dress and hairstyles, and absolutely pathological self-hatred toward their own personal, natural individuality and self-image erroneously use the term “goth” to describe themselves.
In reality, not a more antithetical term could have been chosen.
Goths did not spend two hours in the morning getting their bangs “just right”, because hair obscuring the vision of one eye would make archery and swordplay far less effective. While a twenty-something “goth” quietly spends a gargantuan amount of time painting his nails and scouring thrift stores for girls clothing in the 21st century (HOMO!), a twenty-something Goth would have been calling conventions between other chieftains, devising logistical and tactical plans against a common enemy (COOL).
