Britus

A hybrid accent where someone sounds half British and half American, usually after binge-watching US or UK channels on YouTube, spending too long on TikTok, or interacting in online games with American or UK players — or after moving to the US or UK and gradually blending accents over time.

Example: During COVID isolation, loads of UK kids started sounding Britus after months of watching American YouTube channels.

Lee: Bruv… I can’t understand what my kids are saying these days. They sound really weird.

Frank: Yeah, mine too. They’re deffo online too much, watching too many American YouTubers. They picked up this new accent called Britus — a mix of both accents, LOL.

Lee: Innit, bruv LOL.

Frank: LOL.
