A "genre" of music that doesn't exist. A term most often used by fans of Cradle Of Filth or people that shop at Hot Topic and have no idea what gothic music is.
poser: "like omg do you like goth metal?"
me: "WTF is goth metal? Is that like Bauhaus mixed with Slipknot. Damn, that would sound shitty!"
poser: What is Bauhaus?
me: I hate you.

Closed-minded people would call it crap. But alot of it has meaning, and I agree that most people who don't listen to it are sissies, maybe scared of something, new?
Alot of the music is what we would call anti-establishment, against the government, namely, AMERICAN government (damn you all to hell), and war.-- Rage against the machine, and System of a Down. --
To all you stereotyping assholes, Bite me, shitheads. I'm a teenager, who DOES listen to nu-metal, and yes, I have a great life, I have good parents, I Drive a nice car. My hair may be black, but I don't slit my wrists, say my life is shit, or act all depressed. And neither do all my friends.

A genre of music in which a band tries to be a metal band. Characteristics include screaming comparable to someone being raped, dubstep remixes, similar chord progressions in every song, and crazed fans who take offense to the term "wannabe metal." Examples include underoath, asking alexandria, and emmure.
Musician: "What's that awful noise? Sounds like wannabe metal."
Fool: "Its not wannabe metal! Its post hardcore!"

someone who loves at least the old original metal bands such as black sabbath, judas priest, metallica, ac/dc, and other bands of that nature if you listen to only newer bands such as mudvayne, slipknot, cradle of filth, and other bands of that nature u are not a real metal head to be a real metal head you have to at least like the old original metal bands a metal head has no specific clothing style and no specific hair style long hair is just a common thing among metal heads and was adopted from the "hippies" which were categorized for liking bands such as the doors, led zeppelin, deep purple, jimi hendrix all helped metal evolve as well
real metal head: I fucking love black sabbath and i respect all the original metal bands.
fake metal head: Cradle of Filth is the best band ever, metal in the 70s and 80s was horrible.
If you listen to metal bands coming out today but do not listen to or at least respect the bands that led up to their music then you are not a real metal head and should stop saying you are before you end up getting your ass beat by a real metal head.

a subdivision of metal which focuses in melody and precision, often dealing with themes from the Dark ages like fairies, elves and stuff. Looking alike and sounding alike is an unusually common tendency within bands of this genre
Rhapsody and Blind Guardian can duke it out for the second prize while Boanerges calmly takes the first place.

All you hair-metal haters can suck ass, because people actually had talent in hair metal bands!
For instance, Motley Crue KICKED ASS. Motley Crue sounded the EXACT SAME on stage as they did on their cds-THATS MOTHERFUCKIN TALENT
They sang about all emotions, mostley happiness, while grunge didn`t have half as creative tunes as they did.
Good thing Vh1 is bringing the 80`s back, if not, I`d go insane

There is much confusion about this term. It appears to have two meanings:
1: Same as Gothic Metal. People often call gothic metal "goth metal" because they assume the two words are interchangable, or because they assume that because it's called "gothic" it must have something to do with goth. It does not.
2: Any metal that so-called goths (usually wannabe goths) listen to. Could be anything from Nightwish to Slipknot depending on the whim of the speaker. This is a ficticous genre, ie there is no such thing as "goth metal"!! Gothic Rock and Metal are POLLS APART!!!
There is no genre of goth music which sounds anthing like metal. Period. Although there is no reason a goth cannot have a varied music taste, there is no connection whatsoever between goth and any form of metal.
For the true definition of gothic metal see gothic metal
