The Wall

Share definition
The period in a life when the one's attractiveness starts to decline. "To hit the wall" means to start losing beauty and youth. The metaphor is overwhelmingly more often mentioned regarding women (considering the significance of beauty in a female's life) to manifest the decline in their attractiveness, which starts revealing itself at about the age of 25. Usually after that age a female understands, that the titanic is sinking, and she desperately starts searching for a husband that would take care of her. The further behind "the wall", the more desperate a female is in seeking for a marriage/commitment from a man. The phenomenon is largely underappreciated among the young women due to their overinflated ego and the society unwilling to hold women least bit accountable for their actions.
"Damn, another female in my comments that's hit the wall really hard... No wonder she's so bitter."

"Did you know John recently married that 33 years old brunette?"
"Yea, what's up with him? She's about his age... Doesn't he see that she's hit the wall?"
"Well, he thinks she's a unicorn, head over heels in love. Poor man."

holding up the wall

Based on lyrical evidence, this term refers to those that visit a club and, instead of dancing and being sociable, remain out the outskirts of the dance floor, away from the 'action.'

A more traditional term for this behavior is 'wallflower.'

However, as evidenced in 'Everytime Tha Beat Drop' example below, 'holding up the wall' may also refer to a case where an individual requests that another engage in an activity only to be turned down due to (occasionally perceived) social or financial status (i.e. the archetypal 'girl that's too good for you').
"I'm soon to motivate the room ... If you holdin' up the wall, then you missin' the point." -Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says

"Cause I ain't one of these too bourgeois broads /
Always in the club holding up the wall" -Monica featuring Dem Franchize Boyz, Everytime Tha Beat Drop
