Originally a kolkhoz was a form of collective farm in the Soviet Union. Nowadays this word is used by Russian people to describe poorly executed DIY project. Such projects usually aim to get the job done by simplest and cheapest way, disregarding aesthetics, reliability and safety.
John: Did you fix that device you was talking about?
Alexander: Yes. It such kolkhoz for now, but it is working. I will redo this properly after I get suitable parts.
