A woman from Latin America. They are very diverse & come in every skin color & hair texture. ***note, ONLY women from LATIN AMERICA are latinas. spaniards, italians, & portugues people are NOT latinos/latinas because although they speak latin derived languages, they are not part of latin america, so they are not latinos. speaking latin derived language does NOT automatically mean latino/a!!! only latin americans are latinos/latinas :)

A person born in Latin America, or that has heritage in Latin America. Latin America includes South America, Central America, and the 3 Hispanic-Caribbean Islands: Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic. ONLY people from Latin America are Latinos. Spaniards, Italians, and Portugues are NOT latino whatsoever. their languages are latin-derived, but they are not part of latin america, therefore, they are not latinos. the word Latino does NOT mean descendent of the latins from the roman empire; it literally means people from Latin America.

Latinos can be of any race and skin color. There are black latinos, white latinos, and indigenous latinos. There are also many mixed-raced latinos (mestizos, mulattos, afro-mestizos). many latinos descend from the African slaves brought to Latin America, the Spanish conquistadores, and/or the Indigenous peoples. many people of many different races have immigrated to Latin America throughout history; they too are Latinos. ex: Shakira is of Lebanese descent, but her family immigrated to Colombia, where she was born. she is an Arab Latina.
Person1: I'm Latino, my family is from El Salvador.

Person2: "I'm Latino too! I'm Italian."

Person1: "Italy is not in Latin America...you're not Latino"

Person2: "Are you serious?? I've been living a lie"

A Latino is a person from Latin American, or a person of Latin American descent. Latin America consists of all of South America, Central America, Mexico, Haiti, and the three Caribbean islands where Spanish is the official language (Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic). Although Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese people, and certain other European groups speak a Latin-derived language and/or are descendents of Latin people, they are not "Latinos", because the term "Latino" is nowadays used to specifically refer to people from Latin America or of Latin American descent. Latin America is a melting pot, therefore Latinos can be of any racial background and can look like anything.
