ptichka

Ptichka (or Little Bird) was the nickname for the second space shuttle produced as part of the Soviet Russian Buran program. It is also known as Shuttle 1.02.

In William Gibson's cyberpunk classic Virtual Light, ptichka is used as an obvious acronym for a Slavic boy whore. Gibson's book was published in 1993, and the Buran program ended in 1993. Chronologically, ptichka could have been an actual slang term in pre and post Soviet Russia.

If the reader is still confused, a thoughtful moment meditating on the similarities of a diminutively-named space rocket and the insular love lives of some adult males will soon reveal the link between the original word and the slang.
