A subint is a person who is the "subject of interest" in a police or legal investigation. As opposed to the unsub, the subint is known to the authorities. They may or may not be a suspect, but are never a CI, who are referred to as such.

In Intelligence circles, this can also be used to refer to a person targeted by the intelligence agency for information collection.
Judas is a subint for the VIP murder, bring him in and let's find out what he knows.

Fritz is our subint, let's get some ears and eyes in his apartment.

To screw up setting your house or business on fire for insurance and either get caught by the police or burn to death along with the property.
