I plead the fifth

It means that your aren’t going to incriminate yourself by not saying “yes” or “no”! When you do say this phrase you are basically saying “yes you did it”, but legally they cannot say you said “yes” or “no”.

Judge: Mr.Parker did you purposely key your ex’s car?
Me: “I plead the fifth”
