In the late 1960's and early 1970's, Afro-Americans would call a woman a "hole" implying the meaning of a prostitute or whore. The result sounded like "ho" (think Ebonics).

People mistakenly believe "ho" is a shortened version of whore rather than hole.

That ho on the corner makes a lot of money on a good night from those college frat boys.
