tugmuckledy

‘Tugmuckledy’ is a word I’ve known my entire 55 years. I remember my great-grandmother using it, and it’s a part of my family’s everyday language. It was only 15 years ago before someone informed me it was not in the dictionary 🤷🏻 ♀️ But there really isn’t another substitute: Tugmuckledy means a mishmash of colors that have no pattern, and isn’t especially pretty. For instance, a dog that is pure mutt, and no one single color, just a pile of leftover colors thrown on 😂

“Hey mama, did you see the neighbor’s tugmuckledy dog in our yard?”
“Hey mama, where’s my favorite tugmuckledy quilt that granny made?”

I live in a very rural area in SE Oklahoma, which also happens to be a hugely popular vacation destination. Visitors aren’t familiar with our bugs 😂 like ticks and chiggers, which itch like crazy. Hence, “Chitchy”.

Mama, I’m so Chitchy after hiking through the woods!”
