“Who's the daddy?”

Still frequently used British slang, possibly becoming a bit dated now. Means who or what is the best by a long shot? Often used almost rhetorically to assert an extreme dominance.

Taken from the film “Scum” - 1979. In the film Carlin a young convict, played by Ray Winstone, victoriously beats up all opposition in the borstal he is incarcerated in and then shouts aggressively, almost screaming, “Who's the daddy? I am the fucking daddy now!” when he finally becomes top dog.

The question “Who’s the daddy?” in the UK, can be used to define the best of anything, the coolest or most influential, particularly if it wipes the floor of all opposition. Whether an inanimate object or person is being talked about.

“Who’s the daddy?” has nothing to do with paternity or age, as Carlin was no older than his fellow inmates.
