To cause former enemies (who originally perceive each other as "them") to come together as an "us". Typically accomplished by an enemy or hardship that these disparate groups have in common.

In Alan Moore's "Watchmen", Ozymandias stages a massive, horrific alien attack in an attempt to ussify all of humanity.

Shitty and infantile. Derived from "meconium", meaning "the first feces of a newborn infant."

The students felt self-righteous and dignified as they petitioned their principal for longer recess, but in reality their grievances were petty and meconious.
