Near universal slang in the U.S. Marine Corps for the lowest passing rifle or pistol qualification (Marksman) because of the appearance of the badge one earns for that low of a score.

Kill Hat
U.S. Marine Corps nickname for the Drill Instructor at one of the two Marine Corps Recruit Depots assigned to a platoon of recruits and in charge of discipline. Sometimes combined with the Heavy Hat who is in charge of instructing drill.

Heavy Hat
Nickname in the U.S. Marine Corps for a Drill Instructor whose job it is to teach new recruits how to drill properly. He spends most of his time on the grinder rehearsing drill & ceremonies movements.

A U.S. Marine Corps nickname for the drill field, often a large paved avera, where official drill & ceremonies are conducted. New recruits first experience the grinder at their Recruit Depot.
