When used properly, it is the correct term for a flexible tube or pipe that chiefly carries water from a rigid pipe connection. The actual term originated in Britain where it is used almost exclusively, and it is also used correctly in most Southern States of the USA. In most areas of the North Eastern USA, Garden hose is an acceptable term, which implies use only for a garden although seldom used solely for this purpose.

When, "Hosepipe" is used in urban slang, it is usually used derogatorily by a person from the Northern States of the USA, often while attempting a poorly portrayed Southern accent to imply some degree of unintelligent speak, I.e. trying to belittle the intended person or audience. Ironically, the actual use of this term in the fore mentioned manner has the opposite effect, thus by revealing the user's own insufficient intellect.

So be forewarned, if you use this term as Urban Slang to belittle a person or group of people, then it is suggested that you use it around your fellow group/crew of uneducated halfwits that will not be able to discern true intelligence from an unsubstantiated inflamed ego.
