Hang Iron

A term used while driving to describe a situation where you are sticking your car out into incoming traffic in order to make a turn or merge. If a zipper merge is happening, “hanging iron” would indicate forcing yourself between two cars not properly merging. If making a left turn yield you would be positioned in the middle of the intersection waiting to turn left and “hanging iron”. Typically happens at large events like sports games or in big cities where it is difficult to make turns.

“It’s so busy I have to hang iron to get anywhere” or “nobody will let me in I’m about to hang iron out here”
