A state of desperacy trying to acheive something over and over but continuously failing

Person 1: Person 3 seems like they're in somnio.
Person 2: You're right, I've seen them trying to win the annual sports award for the sixth time now but hasn't placed first in every attempt.

Good Grapes

Another way of saying something (a play, a story, etc.) is excellent or fantastic.

He applauded the play yelling, "Good grapes!" to the actors at the end.
