Definitions by Konstantinoupoli

Agape is the highest form of love, charity and the love of God for human beings and of human beings for God. It is not merely a category of love above philia, eros, etc. It is the ultimate self-giving love that seeks nothing in return.
The best example of agape is giving without the desire to recieve.

Ἀγάπη/Agápē

Agape is the highest form of love, charity and the love of God for human beings and of human beings for God. It is not merely a category of love above philia, eros, etc. It is the ultimate self-giving love that seeks nothing in return.
Agape can be best seen in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
(ἠγάπησεν is the word Ἀγάπη/Agápē here)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
