This phenomenon occurs when someone attempts to eliminate options. A person would do this because it’s helpful for trying to make a guess or help make a critical decision.
Jason gives a riddle to Robert that has 8 possible correct answers. Robert receives a hint from Jason. From this hint, Robert can now safely eliminate 4 options out of the 8. Therefore, Robert is narrowing the scope

Catering to the Casuals
A phenomenon that occurs when a video game developer changes a game mechanic to make the game easier for new players. Alternatively, if a game developer lessens the skill gap, then this phrase fits the mould as well. This typically makes the game less enjoyable over a longer period of time
