Hostile obedience 

The act of following directions from an authority figure to the nth degree all the while knowing that the effort will yield meaningless/worthless data or results. This is generally accompanied with the smug self-satisfaction of knowing that you have wasted 6 weeks completing a project whose value is zero and being able to tell you boss with a smart-ass grin that you did exactly what you were told.
There are two types of bad employees - one never does what is asked of them - the other only does what is asked of them. A person who practices hostile obedience falls into this second category
