Pringling 

The act of pretending to provide information in an intellectual manner, giving farcical "examples" that do not actually mean anything in an attempt to trick people into seeing something that isn't actually there.

The tailors made the emperor believe that only the wise could see his new clothes, but it turns out they were pringling just to trick him into walking around naked.
