shamboozle

A farce or sham intended to defraud or swindle. To use smoke and mirrors to scam, to fool, to cheat, to deceive, to delude, to hoodwink, to mislead, or to dupe an innocent, ignorant, inexperienced, or naive victim. Usually used in retrospect with a sense of humor.
"Judge, there was no gas leak in our home the night my flight came in early. It was all just smoke and mirrors to buy time so he could sneak his mistress out the back door. Don't let him shamboozle you, too, with his stories."
