The Standard Oil Company of
New York, S.O.Co.N.Y., or simply Socony, was one of thirty-four independent companies
broken up from the
monopoly that was Standard Oil, as ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court. Socony merged with Vaccuum Oil bringing about Socony-Vacuum. Later they changed the name to Socony Mobil Oil Company, then to just Mobil Oil Corporation. Finally, they merged with Exxon in 1999 into the current ExxonMobil.
