In MOBA games, shotcalling is when
one calls out everything that'
s happening on the minimap, their teammates, and especially enemy activity. It is usually the teammate playing the tank role that does a shotcall.
Shotcalls are important, since they let the entire
team know about the opponent, what their plans are, while also notifying the
team's status; therefore each member of the team is notified of everything that is happening that they might have missed. This also helps the team make right decisions on what to do
next.
Tank: "Their jungler is on the buff, one of our sidelaners is retreating and our jungler is not yet prepared for the teamfight."
Mage: "Fighter, what are you doing??!! We are not yet ready for the teamfight!"
Fighter: "I can do this, all of you are nearby"
(*Fighter initiates teamfight; Mage and Tank have no
choice but to join in as well)
(*The team loses teamfight due to unpreparedness and
ignorance)
Jungler: "Why did all of you die?!!"
Mage: "Because our
arrogant Fighter here did not listen to Tank's shotcall."
