One Upper

Of or relating to a person always trying to outdo or claim that their experience was better without regard to whether it actually was better.

Torrey said that he had an excellent vacation in South Beach. Andrea then chimes in and says she had a better vacation in Iowa. This illustrates a one up and a one upper.

One-upper

Someone who always has to beat someone else's story by 'one-upping' them. Such people are usually making these stories up, but seek to lie to try and seem more impressive to the audience of the first person's story.

George to friends: I hit three 3 pointers in a row at basketball
Lee to friends: I hit seven 3 pointers in a row at basketball
Friends: You are such a one-upper, Lee

Pathological One-upper

One-upping to such a degree, involving, caused by, or of the nature of a mental disease, where an upper is incapable of ever stopping and must refute any up of a fellow upper, even if the up makes no logical sense at all.

Regular One-upper: Dude, i bought a Jaguar last week. It's sick.
Pathological One-upper: Nice. I got an Aston a few days ago...
Regular One-upper: My Dad's getting a Bugatti Veyron today!
Pathological One-upper: That's nothing. For that much money you won't even get an apartment in my building. I have six.

(n.) Someone who tries constantly to out-do your bad personal experiences with their own bad stories, which in their eyes, is always worse.

Me: Oh man, I just had the worst day at work! I got fired...

Tim: Oh, sorry about that. Mine wasn't too much better. I forgot to save a really long document before shutting down my computer. Such a bad day!

Online One Upper

An annoying person who will one up anything that is posted on an online forum, message board or social network site. If you post an update about something they will try to top it with a personal story of their own. Also applies to posts about videos, links, etc., as they will tell you how your media is old, a repost, or how ________ is better than what you posted.

Brian: Old! Repost! Fail!

Legitimate One-Upper

Where a one-upper tells you a bigger and better story, usually by making it up, a Legitimate One-Upper doesn't make anything up because they really are bigger and better than you.

Player: Dude, you see those girls over there? Yeah. I totally banged them last night..

Rich Player: Oh them? I did them last weekend. And their sisters...

Player: *Mutters* Damn, you Legitimate One-Upper...

story interruptor one-upper adder-toer

A person that interrupts you mid-story. But then not only interrupts your story, they feel the need to one-up your story with an even better story of their own. And to top it off, they not only interrupt you in the first place, one-up you with their story, they then feel the need to add to your original story they interuppted.

I was in class the other day talking about how my dad went to Haiti to help the earthquake victims, and before I could even finish Frank interrupted me and said his dad not only flew to Haiti to help the victims, but that he also donated a million dollars to the relief act. He went on to say that his dad told him my dad was down there but wasn't actually doing anything to help. That fucking Frank is such a story interruptor one-upper adder-toer!
