1) In the work of JRR Tolkien, this is an elvish word used to refer to elves. More specifically, it refers to elves who made the journey west in the First Age, and their descendants (as opposed to the "dark elves" or Avari). All the major elven characters in Tolkien's novels are eldar.

2) In the Warhammer 40,000 (Games Workshop)universe, the Eldar are a race of aliens who live on Craft-worlds. Broadly good in alignment, they are divided into different units of bizarrely coloured guilds and crafts. Basically, futuristic elves. They dress in slim, streamlined armour with pointed helmets, and have many special units relying on otherworldly technologies and magic - including some which look remarkably like Star Wars speeder bikes, others which resemble floating disks, and giant godlike beings known as Avatars.

Eldar sounds a bit like a cross between "elder" and "elf".

Eldarkings 

Eldarkings would be a creature of pure annoyance. Annoying because of the constant buzzing noise closely related to that of a mixture of a humming bird and a dying cat that can be heard within a 300,000 mile radius,the noise itself can cause instant insufferable bowel damage, among those of the human type. This Noise is caused by the gigantic rubbing of thighs that occurs when the Demon moves at the constant speed of smell. This creature is also very annoying for its horrid smell that smells similar to that of a decaying fetus mixed with a hairball. This creature has only been seen 3 times to date in the last 10,000,000 years. Meeting or seeing this creature does not occur at all . . . ever, mainly because if you were to see this creature your eyes would boil out of your skull, while simultaneously contracting rabies of the third kind. Also your abdomen would pulsate around three times then explode. After encountering this creature I recommend you just die, seeing how there is not much left to do.

"Hey WTF is that Goddamn noise? Oh Shit DON'T LOOK, DON'T LOO. . . OHHH GOD MY EYES. . . (Inconsistent Rambling followed by a rather gory explosion)" Of course this occurred after seeing the creature known as Eldarkings.

Dark Eldar

Dark Eldar are a Xenos race in the Warhammer 40k universe, this race of Xenos are Eldar who are so fucked up not even those who are into the BDSM fetish would wish to partake. Some of these Xenos are anywhere between 10,000 to 35,000 years old and even some of them were still alive before they accidentally birthed a new Chaos god by the name of Slaanesh by their blood orgies and depravity that is beyond all description, logic, reasoning or understanding.

These Xenos live on Commorragh, which is essentially a massive city state in the Webway, essentially a place where nobody of sane mind would go because of how dangerous and perverse it is. The Dark Eldar have their own version of the sick twisted freak from the Emperor's Children Legion Fabius Bile, however these freaky darlings are the Homonculi, monstrous beings who delight in experimentation of the unfortunates they enslave or get their fingers on.

Take a look at these Dark Eldar, hard to believe that they were just like Eldar at one point of time.
