The original form of Black Metal, famous for its satanic lyrical content as well as its lo-fi hardedge musical backing.

Black Metal its purist form. Used to reference bands such as Emperor, Mayhem, DarkThrone, Burzum, and more recently Gorgoroth and Immortal. Newer bands in the third wave of black metal do NOT qualify as True Norwegian Black Metal. (sorry Dimmu)

A mick take of True Norwegian Black Metal. It is used to refer to the scottish pirate obsessed power metal band Alestorm. Alestorm were once known as Battleheart and play folk influenced power metal.
You've heard Battle Metal now you need to hear True Scottish Pirate Metal.

Black Metal DID NOT originate in Norway! Norway definately re-defined Black Metal and made it into what it is today (and yes, made it better).

Burzum represents the end of the original wave of Norwegian Black Metal. Varg Vikernes style consisted of far too much ambience to be considered by most to be "true Norwegian Black Metal", but still to his fans he is the most true musician to date. For better or worse, its in the past. Living on today are still many great bands in the genre, and there isn't an end in sight.
True Norwegian Black Metal is very lo-fi and consists of mostly black and white photography to represent it. Very high consistency of satanic literature in the lyrics, and an "over excited rebelous teenager" attitude.
