Thief Scouting

The act of hiding outside of your house for all night, waiting for possible thieves.
It can be an useful pastime when you manage to lock the house with the keys inside, and you remain outside.
John: Damn, you look like you haven't sleeped for years!
Carl: Yeah, I've been thief scouting for all night!
