Contrary to many "North Jersey: definitions, South Jersey boasts an array of economic profitability to the state as a whole. It is home to the state's 3 nuclear power plants (which for the ignorant, do no emit radioactive pollution, so reserve your half-educated "jokes") which provide 50% of the energy consumption by the state. New Jersey ranks in the top five states in country for production of blueberries, cranberries, spinach, bell peppers, peaches and head lettuce, all of which are primarily grown in SOUTH JERSEY. Tourism, which also constitutes a considerable fraction of NJ's GDP, is virtually exclusive to the southern region on the state.
Not to mention cost of living, North Jersey may be dubbed "advanced" by some residents on here, however consider the median family income of a SJ county, Gloucester, at $82,655 with a median home value of $245,000. Morris County, in North Jersey, has a median family income of $102,096 and average home value of $458,000. I'm no mathematician but it seems that relative to income, North Jersey is significantly more expensive. Perhaps this explains why the state's foreclosures are concentrated in the Northern counties, not because the "advanced" counties are home to more expensive house values but because the real estate market is hyper-inflated.
Not to mention, the lack of diversity in SJ is relative to the Philly metro area, as NJ's is relative to the more diverse NYC...common sense.
The southern and better part of New Jersey. Philadelphia is our city - we love our Phillies & Eagles (no matter how many times they let us down) and life without a WaWa is non-existant. Although many people out of state and/or country think we have a Philly/New York dialect (the Jersey Shore Cast), NONE of us talk like that down here. Maybe some up in NORTH jersey, but it's better down here, trust me. We don't even have what some of you people call a "South Jersey "accent - that just sounds weird and it's not even real..the person who made that up must've been talking to someone obviously not from around South Jersey and decided to call it a "South Jersey" accent. Anyway, most of us are friendly down here. We have the best of both worlds...lots of big cities and some country side, unlike North Jersey, all factories & smelly. We have fresh air to breathe. In the summer, we all go to the beaches.. the real Jersey Shores (Sea Isle, Ocean City, Wildwood, Cape May, Stone Harbor, Avalon, etc.) . You can go on rides, go on the boardwalk, and enjoy the fresh ocean air. Even though South Jersey is the better half on NJ, nobody likes it. Ask anyone and the only reason they are probably staying in New Jersey is because of the beaches. We know everyone hates it, but hey, someone's gotta live here.
" Hey Bill, ever been to South Jersey?"
"Yeah man, it beats North Jersey by far. You can actually breathe down there. And the beaches rock."
The better part of Jersey, which includes anything south of I-95.
We support secession from North Jersey, and have a dialect similar to that of a Philadelphian.
South Jerseyite: Hey, where's the WaWa? I need a hoagie and some water.
North Jersyite: What's a 'wooter', 'wawa', and 'hoagie'?
SJ: Go away, asshole.
A section of New Jersey largely populated by stuck-up people with poor grammar, as evidenced by the other definitions. Residents have extremely strange accents that people from other regions might find difficult to understand, though they deny this vehemently. They call sprinkles "jimmies" and order everything by saying, "Gimme a ____," usually regardless of the fact that they should use "an" in front of words starting in vowels.
Person: Gimme a wooder, a beggle, and a heauhgie.
Waitress: Can you point to that on the menu, please? ...Oh, a water, a bagel, and a hoagie. Sorry, I didn't understand your accent. South Jersey, right?
Person: I DON'T HAVE AN ACCENT!!!! And can you hurry? I rilly have to get heauhme and feed my kih-ens before the Iggles game starts.
(rilly=really, heauhme=home, kih-ens=kittens, Iggles=Eagles)
"Say-owth Jurzee" is a place where rednecks with a bad Jersey attitude reside. "Wooder" not "water". The accent is a hybrid of southern and Philly. Extremely annoying to listen to. Irrational support of all sports teams except for those in their own home state of New Jersey. People think they can drive better than anyone else here, but the fact is, the land is straight, flat, well lit, and not very complex compared to other areas such as North Jersey. Thinks "North Jersey" is Tom's River. Will make fun of people from North Jersey, but have never in fact traveled away from the South to see for themselves. In many instances, the North is a scary place for the pineys. Most people are illiterate. Trying to decipher a text from one of these people will cause you to lose a dangerous amount of brain cells. If not in college after high school, South Jersey kids will immediately have one to several illegitimate children. Jobs/housing/vehicles/significant others/life goals/etc. usually change on a monthly to weekly basis. Low income, yet everyone still has money to buy cigarettes and booze. They are proud to use WaWa's for everything, which means paying a higher price for convenience. Usually content to live off of federal aid throughout their lifetime. People never think more than about 5 minutes ahead of what they are doing, and even that is a stretch. A "Do it in the Pines" bumper sticker is not uncommon to see on the back of a rusted-out, lifted, diesel ford or dodge pickup truck.more...
For the record its SOUTH Jersey not "southern" Jersey. Philly rocks and NYC sucks. If your here and you don't know what a wawa is you can go back to the North.
It a hoggie not a fricking sub. You root for the Phillies not the damn mets and even though the eagles suck you still bleed green. Point Pleasant is not the shore wildwood, ocean city, and cape may are. Most families are either from Philly or have Irish/Italian relatives that live there. We aren't afraid or goin in the woods 'cus we have the fricking jersey devil!
One word for you: MALLS! Depford, Cherry hill, Echelon.. we have alot.
Sure we have camden but other then that we have great communities. there's Haddenfield, Cherry Hill, and several other great towns.
North Jersey can have there politics and ivy league schools all to themselves. Leave us "Southerners" the hell alone!!!!!
south jersey is the better part of the great state, new jersey.
we like to get fucked up on a regular basis.
weed + beer + good friends = a good time
we are all about philly teams.
tons of underage drinking.
malls all everywhere around here.
I personally think deptford is the best mall.
wawa is the shit.
we always chill at down the shore.
our schools blow.
tons of cops.
other than that south jersey is the place to be.
lived in south jersey all my life.
