This word must always be said in capital as it emphasizes how hard the word ROCKS!
HARDCORE is saying pretty much your comment on how extreme something is. HARDCORE is the limit, it is the core of cool things! It is the mother of things! It is being surrounded by wanna be HARDCORE things! Such as deoderant! Deoderant isn't as HARDCORE as cones. No way.

Cones are in the core of coolness. You can't get better than cones, think of a planet. A planet like Earth only this planet represents the coolest of the cool! In the middle is the HARDCORE things whilst wannabees are wrapped around it desperately begging for acceptance. Like I said, for instance: deoderant. Deoderants cool but not as HARDCORE as cones. It's in the core, it is hot, you cannot get as hot as a HARDCORE cone! I'm repeating myself here but who cares?! Repeating is HARDCORE!
Ally-EXTREMELY HOT HARDCORE ROCKNG CHICK!

Despite what some people think, hardcore came before emo. After Hardcore died out toward the end of the eighties, Ian McKaye (of Minor Threat) started a band called Fugazi. And thus EMO was born. (Yes, there were others, but Fugazi was one of the first.)
Hardcore was born in late seventies. It's one hell of a long "trend."

a genre of music.
this is how it started.

2000-2002 punk and pop punk exploudes back to mainstream
2001-2003 emotional melodic punk starts to sway in alot of fans
2003 the punk in "emotional punk" is completley taken out and emo becomes its own genre and is almost soft rock or softer
2002-2005 screamo(intense emotional punk with some harder riffs)comes in
2004-pesent hardcore developes (a thin line between screamo and metal)and is first genre to come out of punk that is not made fun of on a daily basis.

side note: indie: a primarily NY indepent melodic experimental genre. that sounds nothing like hardcore for some reason goes hand in hand
indie and hardcore are the best non-sophomoric genres out today. and experimantal which is becoming the next big genre.

Hardcore is sub-genre of music erroneously identified by emo children, as to personify their lackluster musical tastes so as to give them the appearance of not being weepy or melodramatic.
"Dude, did you go to that Hawthorne Heights concert last night? Colin said it was totally hardcore. People were even smoking reifer!" -- Emo children conversing in a high school commons.

Hardcore Punk is a subgenre of Punk Rock which originated in North America in the late 70's. The sound is thicker, heavier, and faster than 1970s-style Punk Rock. It is characterized by short, loud, and passionate songs.

It was call Punk at first and not Punk Rock as classic Punk was called. In the ealy 80's it was called Hardcore Punk

Hardcore Punk started in L.A with the band Black Flag and in D.C with the band Minor Threat and Bad Brains; which are the big three bands of early Hardcore Punk.

In the 90's heavy metal bands tried to get into Hardcore with out being Punk. Which is not Hardcore at all. The Hardcore movent and sound is still Punk and always will be. Metalcore is metal music not Hardcore Punk. There is still Harcore Punk bands around today, and that are not metal bands claiming to be Hardcore with out being Punk. A few of them are,

The Casualties
Cheap Sex
Devotchka
Dropkick Murphys
Lower Class Brats
No Use For A Name
Pennywise
Rise Against
Suicide Machines
The Unseen
And more.
Hardcore is Punk music. Its not a fourm of Metal music. Its short for Hardcore Punk.
