A ghost tag is the act of tagging an account or channel in a social media post—most commonly an Instagram Story—in a way that preserves the tag’s functional behavior (ex: notifications, attribution, tappable link, or backend recognition) while making the tag visually imperceptible or intentionally hidden from the viewer.
Ghost tags allow creators or brands to credit, notify, or route engagement to an account without disrupting the visual composition of the content.
