They thrive on Yelp's 2 tier system of becoming "Elite", which Yelp hands out like candy, in order to meet people and attend events preferred restaurants foot the bill for.
Yelp Elite status also provides many members with a sense of accomplishment, self-worth and superiority over others. Qualities that until that point did not exist in their lives.
