a combination of the words hex and sexy; used to describe someone who is attractive in part due to his/her edgy, sometimes gothic mystique. The term is preferable to sexy when describing someone with a striking or exotic appearance, as opposed to someone who is conventionally attractive.

The song is a blatant and tasteless ode to artist’s breasts—her “Coconuts.” Despite the song’s comically poor lyrics, sound, and concept, Petras successfully garnered attention for it via TikTok. Partially available as a sound on the app, virtually every single creator who uses it in a video will be graced by a comment from Petras herself. The verdict is still out on whether this is a genuine effort on the artist’s part, or some type of sociological study weighing the public’s preference for good music against a desire for clout.

used to describe a person who lacks any sort of self-awareness or conception of how others perceive them; often characterized as woefully oblivious to their gaping flaws, which prevent them from achieving others’ respect or appreciation. A tragic person (see: trag) typically engages in behaviors that they wrongfully believe to be iconic, while most external parties find these antics cringe-inducing and/or trite. To refer to someone as “tragic” is an all-encompassing derision that asserts a person’s utter lack of redeemable qualities, coalesced by physical unattractiveness, dullness, incompetence, ill temper, social ineptitude, and idiocy.

1. An epithet for a specific Karen who confronted a male person of color for stenciling a Black Lives Matter chalk message on a retaining wall, located upon property which he owned. This Karen, echoed by her husband in the distance, insisted that this act was illegal and claimed to have personal knowledge that the man stenciling did not in fact own this property. While she asserted this false claim, she performed an insidious finger-to-chin gesture, apparently to convey flippant deliberation. The image of this action, in particular, made this Karen go viral. The sinister nature of this gesture, paired with her windswept hair and malevolent facial expression made for a disturbing portrait that inspired artistic parody and social media ridicule. Many drew comparison of the image to various figures from pop culture, such as witches, ghosts, and anime villains. This title itself is likely owed to such comparisons to iconic antagonists. Other epithets used in reference to this Karen include "Scary Karen," "Horror Movie Karen," and "Ghost-type Pokemon Karen," among others.

a gay male who boasts an excess of followers and likes on his Instagram profile. He might have acquired his online popularity by diligently farming followers, retaining followers from another platform like tumblr, or even through purchasing engagement from a third-party app. There is a 99.9% chance that he has autonomously labeled his account as a business profile, indicated by the “public figure,” “personal blog,” or “entrepreneur” subtitles. Other defining characteristics include having conspicuous elective surgeries (namely fillers), extravagant/outrageous hairstyle and color, abuse of self-tanner, unreasonably filled-in eyebrows, and excessive whitening of teeth to the point of translucence. A master of misdirection, the instagay carefully constructs an online persona that portrays himself as attractive, fun, rich, outgoing, happy, and confident; in reality, he is typically plain, desperate, awkward, insecure, depressed, and more often than not—tragic.
