Any musical instrument that utilizes pre-recorded digital sounds, that are replayed through an electronic device - often but not necessarily fashioned as a facsimile of a pre-existing instrument - as the synthesizer piano, synth drums, theremin, keytar, guitar-synth. Notable for a distinctive buzzy, hollow sound.
