A condition that occurs after the ingestion of excessive amounts of sugar, refined carbohydrates or other high glycaemic index carbohydrates. The net result of sugar shock is an immediate energy boost, only to be followed by a sudden drop of energy and fatigue 30-120 minutes later, usually worse than that experienced before consuming the refined sugar. Other symptoms can include sleepiness, hypoglycaemia and reduced mental acuity.
